Job summary

Thompson Machinery is seeking a General Shop Mechanic - Construction in Nashville, TN. The role involves setting up, repairing, servicing, diagnosing, and installing replacement parts on Caterpillar diesel-powered construction equipment in company service shops.

You will work largely independently with mentors, reporting to a Service Shop Manager; responsibilities include interpreting manuals, using test equipment, and delivering high-quality maintenance and repairs for customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two+ years of hands-on equipment/engine experience with diesel-powered equipment.
• Must possess a complete set of basic mechanical hand tools.
• Must maintain a valid state driver’s license; CDL may be required for some roles.
• Professionalism, integrity, adaptability, and strong customer service focus.
• Demonstrates urgency and initiative; drive to succeed.
• Knowledge of construction equipment/engine mechanical failures.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret technical instruction, service and safety manuals, policies and procedures.
• Work with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics; use test equipment.
• Provide high-quality repair service, respond to customer needs safely and promptly.
