Job summary

Thompson Machinery is seeking a General Mechanic/Service Shop Technician to set up, repair, diagnose, and maintain Caterpillar diesel equipment in our Portland-area service shop. You’ll work largely independently or with mentors, reporting to the Service Shop Manager and serving customers in-shop.

We expect hands-on diesel/engine experience, ability to read manuals and schematics, and a strong focus on safety and customer service. Competitive pay and a robust benefits package accompany this role.

Qualifications

• Diesel engine, construction equipment and/or truck engine training through accredited technical schools or relevant military experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret technical instruction, service and safety manuals, company policies and procedures.
• Works with mechanical, hydraulic, and electric/electronic schematics and wiring diagrams; demonstrates proficiency with test equipment.
• Provide high quality repair service on equipment and engines, responding to customer needs in a positive, safe and timely manner.
