Job summary

Port Authority is seeking three Construction Safety Specialists to support the Office of Safety Management in Jersey City and New York. You will review plans, ensure OSHA/FDNY compliance, and conduct safety audits and incident investigations across major projects.

Responsibilities include daily reporting, collaboration with engineers and stakeholders, and enforcing safety programs at Port Authority sites and leaseholders.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience, including investigations.
• Valid NYC DOB Site Safety Supervisor Card (SST).
• OSHA 30-hour construction safety certificate.
• Valid driver's license.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Experience on major capital construction projects including heavy civil work.
• Knowledge of OSHA 1926, NYC DOB, FDNY, and local safety regs.
• Familiarity with NFPA, NYC/NJ fire codes and safety procedures.
• Ability to evaluate safety programs and propose technical recommendations.
• Knowledge of hazard recognition, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
• Ability to communicate with OSHA/FDNY inspectors, contractors and stakeholders.
• Experience with safety software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Review contracts, drawings and project docs for adherence to safety standards.
• Ensure contractor compliance with OSHA, FDNY, NYCDOB, and local laws.
• Review contractor Health and Safety Plan submittals.
• Audit operations against Health & Safety Programs and approved plans.
• Monitor site conditions and equipment for safety policy alignment.
• Provide daily safety reports with photos and findings and corrective actions.
• Conduct investigations of accidents, incidents and near misses; perform root cause analysis.
• Provide preliminary information reports on investigations.
• Collaborate with Port Authority engineers, safety reps, brokers and stakeholders.
