Job summary

MP Engineers + Architects is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Specialist to support the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) team. The role focuses on maintaining high health, safety, and fire safety standards across active construction sites under the Construction Management Division.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in safety-related field, CHST certification, and hands-on experience with OCIP/CCIP programs, working on Port Authority projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Construction Management, or a related safety field.
• CHST certification or another recognized construction safety credential.
• Experience working on OCIP and CCIP projects.
• Previous experience on Port Authority projects is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations, OSHA standards, and safety management practices.

Responsibilities

• Monitor contractor activities for compliance with OSHA, FDNY, NYCDOB, local laws, and applicable safety regulations.
• Review contracts, drawings, Health & Safety Plans, JHAs, and project documentation.
• Conduct comprehensive site audits and safety inspections across active construction projects.
• Identify hazards, safety deficiencies, and non-compliance and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Prepare daily safety reports, including photographs, observations, findings, and corrective measures.
• Conduct accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, including root-cause analysis and recommendations.
• Prepare preliminary incident/accident investigation reports for the Port Authority.
• Monitor construction equipment, work practices, conditions, and processes for compliance with approved safety programs.
• Collaborate with Resident Engineers, Agency Safety Representatives, Integrity Monitors, stakeholders, insurance brokers, and contractors.

Additional Requirements

• Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check and fingerprint-based criminal history check.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Airport SIDA credential throughout employment.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions and across large, active construction sites.
• Ability to walk/navigate sites for extended periods and climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolds, with occasional bending and lifting/moving objects.
• Valid driving capability and willingness to travel between construction sites.
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended hours, and overtime when required.
