Job summary

Turner Construction Company seeks an Environmental Health & Safety professional to lead safety on a single Columbus project, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory requirements and guiding teams on safe work practices.

The role demands a CHST credential (or within 2 years), OSHA 30-hour completion, and a minimum of 4 years in construction safety, with travel as needed to sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field, and minimum of 4 years of related construction safety experience
• Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) certification required or within 2 years of appointment
• Completed OSHA 30-hour training and maintain current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications
• Knowledgeable of Federal, State, and local Environmental Health & Safety regulations
• Working knowledge and consistent application of safety and environmental principles and techniques
• Ability to identify known and potential safety related exposures and lead implementation of corrective actions
• Familiar with general construction operations
• Demonstrate elements of leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills and effective presentation delivery skills
• Exceptional organizational skills with high attention to detail
• Analytical thinking, good judgment, and complex problem-solving skills
• Travel required, access to reliable transportation required

Responsibilities

• Lead EH&S on a single construction project and enforce safety programs
• Provide safety leadership and allocate time and resources
• Assess safety practices, identify exposures, and implement mitigation plans
• Communicate safety requirements to project leadership and teams
• Develop site-specific safety training for management, employees, and subcontractors
• Promote safe work practices and compliance with regulations
• Maintain relationships with project staff and subcontractor Safety Representatives
• Develop and enforce project Safety Program and related policies
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance and effectiveness
• Oversee Pre-Task Plans and job hazard analyses for subcontractors
• Hold Preconstruction planning meetings to review safety programs and risk mitigation
• Create safety action items for Preconstruction meetings and verify training
• Conduct worker orientation and record participation
• Collaborate on project safety reports, metrics, and improvement recommendations
• Ensure subcontractors log toolbox safety meetings
• Conduct safety audits and issue corrective action reports
• Perform other duties as assigned
