Job summary

Turner Construction Company is seeking a Safety Specialist to train project teams in EH&S practices and enforce safety programs on construction sites. You will coordinate preconstruction safety activities, review subcontractor safety plans, and develop safety metrics to drive improvements.

The role requires CHST or within two years, OSHA 30-hour, and First Aid/CPR/BBP/AED certifications, with strong communication and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field and minimum of 2 years of related construction safety experience
• CHST certification required or within two years of appointment
• OSHA 30-hour training and maintain current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications
• Familiar with safety/environmental principles and regulations at federal, state, and local levels
• Familiar with general construction operations and ability to identify safety exposures and corrective actions
• Demonstrates leadership, teamwork, and strong verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

• Educate project team on EH&S programs and provide training on safe work practices
• Promote safe work practices and conditions per regulations and owner requirements
• Build relationships with project team and subcontractor safety reps
• Contribute to development of overall project safety program
• Enforce safety programs and implement corrective actions
• Pre-plan activities and review subcontractor safety programs
• Hold pre-construction planning meetings and review job hazard analyses
• Collect PTPs and JHAs for subcontractors
• Coordinate preconstruction meetings and worker orientation
• Create safety reports, analyze metrics, and suggest improvements
• Conduct safety meetings and document minutes
• Maintain log of toolbox safety meetings and reports
• Conduct safety audits and initiate corrective actions
• Evaluate training needs for subcontractors and aim to reduce incident rates
• Administer drug screening program as per company requirements
