Job summary

Turner Construction Company is seeking a Safety Intern to assist with implementing Building LIFE and project safety programs on construction sites and office locations under supervision. Assisting with identifying and reporting safety violations, coordinating safety duties for committees and toolbox talks, and supporting training sessions and orientations.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a college or university safety/engineering degree program with at least 1 year of completed coursework.
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques.
• Desire to learn construction management and the industry.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team while following directions.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and data entry.
• Limited travel may be required; reliable transportation may be needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementing Building LIFE and project safety programs on sites and offices.
• Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices, focusing on imminent danger.
• Coordinate safety duties for safety committees, preplanning meetings, and toolbox talks.
• Assist with training at safety meetings, toolbox talks, and orientations.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for completeness and policy compliance.
• Promote safe work practices and conditions per regulations and owner requirements.
• Assist in administering the drug screening program (pre-employment, post-accident, random).
• Help with preconstruction meetings and document meeting notes under supervision.
• Assist with site/work area inspections and develop inspection summaries.
• Maintain safety records (e.g., pre-task plans, JHAs, training records, OSHA 300 log).
• Support worker orientation programs and record participation.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
