Turner Construction Company is seeking a Safety Intern to assist with activities related to safety and loss control on construction projects or office locations in Memphis, TN. You will work under supervision to support life-saving safety programs and data recordkeeping.

The role emphasizes learning Building LIFE (Living Injury Free Everyday), conducting inspections, and coordinating training and safety meetings with subcontractors.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in college or university with a focus in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 1 year of completed education or equivalent training/experience.
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles.
• Desire to learn about construction management and the construction industry.
• Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementing safety programs on construction projects or office locations.
• Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices.
• Coordinate safety duties for committees, preplanning meetings and toolbox talks.
• Coordinate training at safety meetings, toolbox talks, and orientations.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with company policies and regulations.
• Promote safe work practices and conditions following regulations and owner requirements.
• Assist with drug screening program administration (pre-employment, post-accident, etc.).
• Support preconstruction meetings and document meetings under supervision.
• Assist with jobsite inspections and develop inspection summaries.
• Maintain safety records (e.g., JHAs, training records, OSHA 300 log, MSDS).
• Contribute to worker orientation programs and participation records.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
