Job summary

Turner Construction Company is seeking a Summer 2027 Safety Intern in Northern CA (Sacramento). The role supports implementation of safety programs on construction sites and at offices, with emphasis on reporting hazards, coordinating safety meetings, and maintaining safety records.

The intern will gain exposure to OSHA guidelines, drug screening administration, and safety training coordination while developing professional skills in a hands-on construction environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a college/university program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field, with at least 1 year of completed education.
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques.
• Desire to work in construction management and learn about the construction industry.
• Flexible to work standard business hours and overtime as determined by assignment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team with guidance.
• Proactive, curious, and eager to learn and participate.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing Building L.I.F.E. and project safety programs under supervision.
• Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices, focusing on imminent danger to life or property.
• Coordinate safety duties for committees, preplanning meetings, and toolbox talks.
• Assist with training coordination at safety meetings and orientations.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with policies.
• Promote safe work practices and conditions per regulations and owner requirements.
• Assist with administration of the drug screening program per requirements.
• Participate in preconstruction meetings and conduct research; document meetings under supervision.
• Conduct jobsite and work area inspections and develop inspection summaries.
• Maintain safety records (pre-task plans, JHAs, training, OSHA logs, MSDS, incident investigations).
• Conduct worker orientations and record participation.
• Other activities as assigned under supervision.
