Job summary

Turner Construction Company in the San Francisco Bay Area is seeking a Summer 2027 Safety Intern to assist with safety and loss control on a construction project or in an office setting. You will help implement Building L.I.F.E. and coordinate safety duties, training, and inspections under supervision.

The role requires pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related field, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced construction environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled and actively pursuing degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related field, with at least 1 year of coursework.
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles.
• Interest in construction management and learning about construction industry.
• Flexible to work standard business hours and overtime as assigned.
• Demonstrate interpersonal skills and leadership / volunteer experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to work independently and in a team.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and data entry.
• Limited travel may be required with reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing safety programs on site and office.
• Identify and report safety violations; address imminent danger situations.
• Coordinate safety committee activities and toolbox talks.
• Coordinate training at safety meetings and orientations.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance.
• Promote safe work practices in line with regulations and owner requirements.
• Administer drug screening program per requirements.
• Assist with preconstruction meetings and research; document meetings.
• Conduct jobsite inspections and develop inspection summaries.
• Maintain safety records (OSHA logs, JSA, trainings, toolbox meetings, etc.).
• Conduct worker orientations; record participation.
• Other duties as assigned.
