Job summary

Haydon is seeking a Safety Specialist to serve as the primary Environmental, Health & Safety representative for assigned construction projects. You will partner with Operations to identify hazards, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a proactive safety culture to keep every employee safe.

The role includes field leadership, coaching, training, incident investigations, and continuous improvement of safety programs. Strong OSHA knowledge and clear communication are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
• 3–5 years of construction safety experience or equivalent construction operations experience with increasing safety responsibilities.
• Experience supporting commercial building, heavy civil, or specialty construction projects preferred.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
• Ability to identify hazards and develop practical risk mitigation strategies.
• Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship building abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel required; reporting and data analysis experience preferred).
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple active projects.

Responsibilities

• Field Safety Leadership: Serve as primary safety representative for projects and promote a positive safety culture.
• Incident Investigation & Corrective Action: Lead investigations and develop corrective action plans.
• Training & Employee Development: Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and project training.
• Reporting and Continuous Improvement: Maintain inspection reports, safety metrics, and compliance records.
• Decision-Making Authority: Exercise stop-work authority and escalate safety concerns as needed.
