Job summary

The State of Indiana is seeking a construction project manager for the Fort Wayne District Office. You will routinely communicate with INDOT staff, contractors, and officials to manage final construction records and inventory queries, meeting stakeholders as needed.

A 7.5-hour day shift is typical; the role oversees budgets and project plans up to $5 million, with opportunities to impact Indiana infrastructure. A degree is not required, but 4+ years of applicable experience is expected.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Broad knowledge of construction management methods, materials, safety, scheduling, specifications, contract documents, estimating, and cost analysis.
• Ability to manage projects with emphasis on cost control, project delivery, and scheduling.
• Managerial and communication skills.
• Knowledge of construction regulations and best practices.
• Knowledge of scheduling, CAD, field layout, submittal review, project quantities, material procurement, equipment tracking, and building design.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive construction project plans, ensuring adherence to scope, timelines, schedules, and resources.
• Oversee day-to-day construction issues and direct the activities of inspectors.
• Assign tasks and overtime for highway technicians and project supervisors.
• Create and maintain detailed construction project documentation (contracts, permits, progress reports, quantities, pay estimates).
• Attend meetings, workshops, and conferences related to construction.
• Resolve field issues and coordinate activities between contractor, agency, and stakeholders.
• Provide guidance to ensure projects are built per plans, within budget, and compliant with agency expectations.
• Develop and manage project budgets up to $5 million, ensuring accountability and cost-effectiveness.
• Create/change orders with approval authority and prepare contractor claims documentation.
• Monitor expenses and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality.
• Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact.
• Address and resolve field issues and coordinate among contractor, agency, and stakeholders to minimize disruption.
• Approve or reject contractor and subcontractor work.
• Identify process improvements and best practices to enhance efficiency.
• Leverage project management software to streamline workflows and productivity.
• Stay current with industry trends and advancements.
