Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Madison is seeking an Assistant Construction Manager to support the Construction Project Manager and EPC leadership. The role covers safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, procurement, and field coordination across aviation, commercial building, energy, and manufacturing projects.

You will assist in developing project plans, risk reviews, and subcontracting strategies; prepare RFPs and contract documents; monitor progress and cost reporting;

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field; 3 years relevant construction experience required.
• Experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
• Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access).
• Experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution, transportation, or water projects preferred.
• Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Must be able to meet the company's driving requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist in day-to-day management of project safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts and field coordination.
• Develop project plans, risk reviews, and subcontracting plans with project team.
• Prepare RFPs and contract documents for subcontractor and client selection.
• Support cost reporting, scheduling, and progress tracking processes.
• Ensure QA/QC, safety programs, and documentation compliance.
• Facilitate turnover documentation and project closeout activities.
• Interface with clients and suppliers; assist with procurement activities.
• Support project staffing, documentation, and filing systems.
• Verify insurance, licensures, taxes/duties, and securities per requirements.
