Job summary

Rexford Industrial Realty, Inc. in Costa Mesa, CA is seeking an Assistant Project Accountant to support the financial administration of construction and development projects from the owner's side.

You will assist with setup, budgeting, invoicing, cost-tracking, and closeout, collaborating with DCMM, AP, and Asset Management to maintain accurate records and controls. The role requires a minimum of two days per week in the office and periodic site visits to Rexford properties to support

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Accounting/Finance/Real Estate/Business.
• 1–3 years of accounting, accounts payable, construction administration, or project-based financial support experience.
• Foundational understanding of accounting principles; interest in job cost accounting, pay applications, change orders, lien waivers, and construction contract documentation.
• Proficiency with Excel and ability to learn accounting and project management systems; Yardi experience preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
• Effective written and verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setting up and maintaining project cost codes, budgets, commitments, and financial records in Yardi and related systems.
• Enter and update budgets, contracts, work orders, service orders, and change orders; ensure supporting documentation is complete.
• Review invoices and pay applications for coding, approvals, contract alignment, and documentation; route for approvals and follow up.
• Maintain logs for contracts, commitments, changes, invoices, and payments; support status reporting.
• Help track budgets, actuals, commitments, and forecasted spend; support variance analysis.
• Support CIP reporting by compiling activity, reconciling schedules, and researching variances.
• Coordinate budget revisions and supporting documentation for soft costs and total budgets.
• Prepare internal check requests and reconcile project-related expenses.
• Reconcile project transactions and resolve coding/payment/documentation issues with AP and project teams.
• Support forecasting, contingency tracking, cash flow updates, and cost-to-complete schedules.
• Organize electronic project accounting files and audit-support documentation.
• Assist with project closeout activities, including final invoice reconciliation and archive prep.
