Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Project Accountant to support full‑cycle cost management on large construction projects in Phoenix. You will deliver accurate financial reporting, cost analyses, and robust cost controls from concept through completion.

This contract‑to‑hire role requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or related field and 1–3 years of project accounting experience in commercial construction, plus proficiency in Procore or Autodesk Construction

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 1 year of project accounting/finance experience in construction.
• A minimum of 1‑3 years of experience in a project management, cost management role, or accounting role within the commercial construction industry.
• Thorough understanding of construction accounting principles.
• Experience with the entire change order lifecycle.
• Proficiency in construction management software such as Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud.

Responsibilities

• Support the full‑cycle cost management of projects, establishing and maintaining robust cost controls from concept through completion.
• Facilitate the subcontractor change management system, ensuring timely responses and completeness reviews.
• Process change orders in the system of record, upholding timeliness and completeness standards.
• Support monthly cost reports and risk assessments to stakeholders, highlighting variances and mitigation actions.
• Support monthly stakeholder meetings and presentations with clear financial content and data‑driven insights.
• Review and interpret contractual terms to recommend entitlements related to change orders, claims, and other matters.
• Coordinate with client finance and accounting teams for accurate reporting and compliance with controls.
• Analyze local labor markets, union implications, commodity fluctuations, and tax impacts for cost strategy.
• Assist in resolving invoice/change order discrepancies and payment‑related issues.
