Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Project Accountant for a Contract to Hire role based out of Lubbock, TX. You will support full-cycle cost management for large construction projects, maintain robust cost controls, and collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate reporting.

Key duties include managing subcontractor change orders, performing data reconciliation in Procore and Smartsheets, preparing monthly cost reports and risk assessments, and interpreting contractual terms related to change orders

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or related field.
• Minimum 1+ year of project accounting or finance experience in construction.
• 1–3+ years in project management, cost management or accounting in commercial construction.
• Solid understanding of construction accounting principles.
• Experience with change orders lifecycle (initiation to closeout).
• Proficiency with Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
• Experience with reconciliation and data entry in high-volume environments.
• Ability to interpret contractual terms related to change orders and claims.

Responsibilities

• Support full-cycle cost management for large construction projects.
• Manage subcontractor change management process and documentation.
• Process change orders in the system of record with data integrity.
• Audit and reconcile project financial data for accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare and present monthly cost reports and risk assessments.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings with data-driven insights.
• Interpret contractual terms related to change orders and claims.
• Coordinate with client finance teams for reporting and controls.
• Analyze labor markets, price fluctuations, and tax impacts for budgeting.
• Resolve invoice and change order discrepancies with subcontractors and teams.
• Maintain records of all project accounting transactions.
• Collaborate with Project Cost Manager on transactional elements.
• Data entry and reconciliation in Procore, Smartsheets, and related systems.
