Job summary

Yates Construction is seeking a Project Accountant to join the division finance team. The role focuses on managing job cost projections, billings, and coordinating with AP and Subcontract departments for monthly billings to Owners.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or accounting, with 2–5 years of accounting/financial analysis experience, preferably in the construction industry. Proficiency in Excel and a strong understanding of GAAP are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or accounting.
• Two to five years of professional accounting/financial analysis experience.
• Two plus years of construction industry experience preferred.
• Project management experience is beneficial.
• Previous leadership/management of people experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work with Project Managers from start to finish to ensure receivables and payables are properly handled and timely accounted for.
• Understand owner and subcontractor contracts to ensure accuracy and timeliness of progress billings and payments.
• Maintain standard cost codes in the accounting system.
• Coordinate with funding agencies regarding pay application requirements.
• Prepare monthly invoice packages for all billable projects with supporting documentation.
• Lead monthly accounting meetings with construction/PM teams to review projections and billings.
• Investigate variances and submit variance reports to the Division Controller.
• Oversee the creation and approval of project billings to customers and maintain communication to avoid issues.
• Review project budgets including fees, staffing, and schedules.
• Ensure smooth cash flow by auditing and sending invoices promptly.
• Provide weekly detailed job cost projections to Controller.
• Review job cost reports weekly and assist project teams with change orders and setup.
