W. G. Yates & Sons Construction Company seeks a Project Accountant to manage job cost projections, billings, and coordination with AP and Subcontract departments for monthly owner billings.

The role requires close collaboration with project managers, understanding owner and subcontract terms, maintaining cost codes, preparing invoice packages, and reviewing budgets to ensure timely cash flow and accurate reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or accounting from an accredited institution.
• Two to five years professional experience in accounting and financial analysis.
• Two plus years of experience in the construction industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Project Managers from beginning to end of project to ensure receivables and payables are handled properly and timely accounted for.
• Understand terms in owner contracts and subcontractor contracts to ensure accuracy and timeliness of progress billings and payments.
• Understand and maintain standard cost codes in accounting system
• Communicate with funding agencies regarding pay application process and requirements.
• Prepare monthly invoice packages for all billable projects with backup.
• Lead monthly accounting meetings with the construction/project management team to review projections and billings.
• Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to Division Controller.
• Oversee creation and approval of all project-related billings to customers to foster good communication.
• Review project budgets, including fee structures, staffing, and schedules.
• Audit, generate, and send invoices to ensure smooth cash flow.
• Produce and review billings and submit to Division Controller or Owners/Clients.
• Reconcile non-lump sum billings to job cost monthly.
• Meet billing deadlines per contract; prepare drafts for review.
• Prepare and distribute monthly Job Cost Report/Schedules.
