Job summary

ARCO Design/Build invites driven students to join a hands-on internship/co-op program in North Carolina. You will experience a true concept-to-delivery workflow, from estimating and scheduling to design meetings and site visits.

You’ll participate in training and mentorship from seasoned DBMs, with exposure to bid processes, permitting, and client relationship development. This role builds a strong foundation for a career in construction management.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, Construction Management, Building Science, or Construction Engineering (or related majors).
• Driver’s License required.
• Excellent verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.
• Previous co-op or intern experience in construction preferred, but not required.
• GPA 3.0 or higher preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Gain understanding of project management from concept to final delivery.
• Describe project proposals and assign accurate dollar values (estimating and takeoffs).
• Assist in creating timelines for subcontractors and trades activities (scheduling).
• Attend design meetings with owner and design team, including engineers and architects.
• Prepare weekly reports, document progress, and track action items.
• Join project calls and site meetings to observe leadership of Design/Build Managers.
• Assist with bid processing: send instructions, schedules, drawings, and evaluate proposals.
• Complete permit applications with required documents and fees.
• Receive and route shop drawings and communicate approvals to subcontractors.
• Learn about subcontracts, change orders, pay requests, and pay applications.
• Visit job sites with DBMs to monitor progress.
• Attend offsite trainings and biweekly learning sessions with Learning and Development.
• Gain exposure to business development and client relationship strategies.
