Job summary

ARCO Design/Build in Charleston, SC seeks a Construction Design/Build Project Manager (DBM) Intern/Co-op to learn the full lifecycle of projects from concept to delivery. You will work with seasoned professionals on estimating, scheduling, design meetings, and site visits.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in permitting, submittals, billing, and business development while building industry knowledge in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited civil or related engineering program; co-op/intern experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal communication and attention to detail.
• Previous co-op or intern experience in construction is preferred but not required.
• GPA 3.0 or higher preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Concept to completion approach: learn ARCO's project lifecycle from idea to delivery.
• Estimating and takeoffs: describe proposals and assign dollar values.
• Scheduling: help create timelines for subcontractors and trades.
• Design meetings: attend with owner and design team incl. engineers/architects.
• Reporting: prepare weekly progress reports and track action items.
• Shadowing: join calls and site meetings to observe DBMs leadership.
• Buyout: assist with bid packages, subcontracts, and proposals.
• Permitting: prepare and submit permit applications with authorities.
• Shop drawing & submittal review: route submittals and issue approvals.
• Billing: learn subcontracts, change orders, pay requests, and pay apps.
• Job site visits: accompany DBMs to monitor progress.
• Training & learning: participate in offsite trainings and learning sessions.
• Business development: observe client relationships and strategy.
