Job summary

Marek is seeking a hands-on payroll professional to own key parts of the weekly payroll cycle for a large construction workforce in Houston. You will review time-entry, balance payroll, and handle post-payroll activities while ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities include processing inputs, resolving discrepancies, handling travel and PTO adjustments, and producing certified payroll reports. The role emphasizes process improvement and cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on, full-cycle payroll experience.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll requirements, including FLSA and payroll tax rules.
• Strong Excel skills with payroll reports, reconciliations, imports, and exports.
• Ability to protect confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to prioritize deadlines and communicate across the organization.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Process full-cycle weekly payroll from time-entry review to post-payroll activities.
• Review inputs/outputs for accuracy, investigate discrepancies, and correct promptly.
• Prepare payments and adjustments for travel expenses, PTO, shortages, and other items.
• Respond to employee and stakeholder questions with professionalism and timeliness.
• Maintain payroll records, reports, data imports/exports, and audit-ready documentation.
• Prepare and submit certified payroll reports per contract requirements.
• Support federal and state payroll tax activities (Forms 940/941, unemployment).
• Apply wage-and-hour, payroll tax, and record-retention requirements.
• Collaborate with Payroll, HR, Accounting, operations to resolve issues and improve processes.
• Contribute to special projects, reporting enhancements, and system improvements.
