Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Construction Management Intern for a 10–12 week summer program. You will assist with planning, scheduling, site visits, and documentation, gaining exposure to project controls and procurement while supporting safety and field operations.

Qualified students will be pursuing a degree in CM or related fields, have completed freshman year, and be on track to graduate December 2027 or later. Housing stipends and paid internship benefits may apply.

Qualifications

• Pursuing associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, or related field.
• Freshman year completed
• Graduation date December 2027 or later
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Position not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordinating construction activities.
• Participate in site visits, project walkdowns, and field observations.
• Support review of drawings, specifications, schedules, and permits.
• Document project progress and track materials, equipment, and work orders.
• Assist in preparing reports, meeting notes, and status updates.
• Collaborate with employees, contractors, suppliers, and vendors to support project success.
• Learn about project controls, procurement processes, and construction management best practices.
• Promote AEP’s safety culture and Zero Harm mindset.
