Job summary

American Electric Power in Tulsa, OK is seeking motivated engineering interns for a 10-12 week summer program. You’ll work with experienced engineers, contribute to real projects, and gain hands-on exposure to power systems.

Applicants should be pursuing an ABET‑accredited engineering degree, with freshman year completed and graduation December 2027 or later. The role requires relocation to the Tulsa area and offers a housing stipend for moves over 45 miles.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering in an ABET‑accredited program.
• Must have completed freshman year and be on track to graduate December 2027 or later.
• Must be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in the U.S.
• Not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT; willing to relocate for summer internship.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project teams and engineers on planning, design and execution of enterprise projects.
• Participate in design reviews, training sessions, and safety/constructability assessments.
• Assist in field visits to facilities to understand power system operations and performance.
• Help develop databases, reports, cost estimates and dashboards for data‑driven decisions.
• Support documentation and safety initiatives to improve operations and reliability.
