Construction Estimator

Overview:
Our client, a general contractor specializing in the construction of roads, sewers, water mains, and bridges throughout Northeast Ohio, is seeking a skilled Estimator to join their team. This is a full-time role with a strong emphasis on civil and municipal infrastructure projects.
The Estimator will work closely with engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal field personnel to support accurate and competitive project bids and contribute to project planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities:Pre-Construction Estimating Duties:
Estimate project costs (full projects or portions) for bidding purposes
Research materials, labor, and equipment costs
Analyze production rates, quantities, and potential risk factors
Calculate quantities of bid and material items from construction drawings
Attend bid lettings and pre-construction meetings
Visit job sites for observation and assessment
Collaborate with internal staff, field personnel, and external partners
Prepare detailed correspondence and perform accurate calculations
Project Support Duties:
Assist Project Managers and field staff with project administration
Support scheduling, material submittals, subcontract agreements, and purchase orders
Process and track RFIs, change orders, force accounts, and invoice verification
Prepare take-offs, perform field measurements, and contact subcontractors/suppliers
Use HCSS Heavy Bid & Heavy Job software for estimating and job tracking
Strong organizational and time management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
Analytical mindset and comfort working under pressure
Effective negotiation and listening skills
Eagerness to learn and work in a team environment
Civil, utility, or public infrastructure construction experience (concrete, municipal bidding, etc.)
Hands-on estimating and project coordination experience
Familiarity with public bidding procedures
Proficiency with HCSS Heavy Bid & Heavy Job or similar software
