Job summary

Baxter & Woodman seeks a Construction Engineer I in Crystal Lake, Naperville or Bannockburn IL to support the firm's construction group on roadways, bridges, and underground infrastructure. You will work directly with clients and assist with project design as you pursue your Professional Engineering license.

Expect hands-on field and design exposure, collaboration with inspectors, contractors and public agencies, and growth within a technology-driven firm that values long-term career development

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil or Construction Engineering.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Willingness to travel across Baxter & Woodman’s service area.
• Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
• Interest in pursuing Professional Engineering license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site observation of work, repairs, and tests.
• Coordinate construction activities with clients, inspectors, contractors, and agencies.
• Protect owner against defects and deficiencies in the work.
• Serve as liaison with contractor.
• Maintain job site records, daily reports, minutes, drawings, pay requests.
• Observe, measure, and document construction activities.
• Maintain daily construction activity logs.
• Monitor progress, schedule, and shop drawing log.
• Review pay requests and verify completed work.
• Provide detailed designs as workload requires.
• Perform general civil engineering and client service tasks.
• Assist with design of future projects during off-season.
