Job summary

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer to support construction projects across Newark, NJ. The role centers on hazard identification, enforcing safety protocols, and ensuring regulatory compliance on active sites.

You will conduct site inspections, contribute to incident investigations, and implement mitigation strategies with project teams to improve safety culture and performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field.
• Certified Safety Professional (GSP/ASP) or similar BCSP certification required.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Commitment to safety culture and project team involvement.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular site inspections to identify hazards and verify corrective actions.
• Assist in incident investigations including interviews, data collection, and documentation.
• Evaluate safety planning/permits (hot work, confined space, fall protection, etc.).
• Apply Industrial Hygiene concepts (hearing conservation, silica, asbestos, lead) where relevant.
• Support fire protection and storage/handling of flammable materials.
• Maintain knowledge of OSHA regulations and ensure site compliance.
