Job summary

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company (WT) is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer to support construction projects in the Charlotte area, coordinating with project teams to integrate safety into planning and execution.

This role requires broad technical and managerial expertise to identify hazards, lead inspections, support incident investigations, and foster a strong safety culture on busy job sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field.
• Recognized Safety Professional Certification (examples).
• BCSP (GSP or ASP) credentials are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular job site inspections to identify hazards and verify corrective actions.
• Support incident investigations with interviews, data, photos, and proper documentation.
• Evaluate planning/permits such as Hot Work, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Excavation, Steel Erection, Energized Work, and Pre-cast Tilt-Up for appropriate mitigation.
• Apply Industrial Hygiene principles including hearing conservation, silica, asbestos, lead work, lasers, etc.
• Demonstrate understanding of fire protection and safe storage of flammable/combustible materials.
• Maintain working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
• Contribute to safety culture and align with project team expectations.
