Job summary

Sompo is seeking a Claims Specialist, Construction to join our Casualty Claims team. You will manage construction-related General Liability claims, assess coverage, and develop strategies with underwriters.

Based in multiple U.S. offices including Charlotte, NC, this role emphasizes collaboration with risk control, underwriting, and counsel to achieve fair, timely resolutions and strong client service. We offer competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree preferred; JD preferred but not required; adjuster’s license required.
• 3–5 years in an insurance technical claims position or at a law firm with construction-related files.
• Insurance designations such as CPCU/IIA/SCLA are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Direct handling and management of primary and excess General Liability claims for Construction-related insureds (Bodily Injury, Property Damage, potentially Construction Defect).
• Provide coverage and analytical analysis of potential exposures and establish reserves.
• Communicate responses to management and underwriters on new losses; provide written assessments on loss trends and high exposure cases.
• Manage counsel; develop and execute strategy to control expenses and resolutions; represent company in meetings and negotiations.
• Proactively manage correspondence, claim files, and maintain diary in compliance with standards.
• Support underwriters and actuaries during renewal processes; maintain claim and industry-related expertise.
