Job summary

Sompo is seeking a Claims Specialist, Construction to join our Casualty Claims team. This role focuses on direct handling and management of General Liability claims for Construction-related insureds, with emphasis on coverage analysis and reserving.

The position can be based in Alpharetta, GA or other U.S. office locations. Requires 3–5 years in insurance claims, an adjuster license, and designations such as CPCU/IIA/SCLA are a plus; JD preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree preferred; Juris Doctorate preferred but not required; adjuster’s license required.
• Minimum 3–5 years in an insurance technical claims position or at a law firm with an emphasis on managing Construction-related files.
• Insurance-related professional designations or education such as CPCU, IIA, or SCLA a plus.
• Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills; ability to assess coverage, tender opportunities, claim strategy, reserving, and resolution options.
• Ability to establish strong working relationships with underwriting partners; manage multiple projects to completion; work as self-starter and team player.
• Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook; claims systems; Guidewire, Genius, and ImageRight experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Direct handling and management of primary and excess General Liability claims for Construction-related insureds such as Bodily Injury and Property Damage.
• Provide coverage analysis and establish appropriate reserves.
• Communicate responses to management and underwriters on new losses and trends; provide written assessments.
• Manage counsel; develop strategy to control expenses and resolve litigated claims.
• Proactively manage correspondence, claim files, and maintain diary in compliance with standards.
• Support underwriters and actuaries during renewal; maintain claim and industry-related expertise.
