Nichols Contracting, Inc. is seeking an organized Accounts Payable Specialist to join our accounting team in Columbia, MD. You will manage vendor invoices, ensure accurate records, and support job costing for diverse construction projects.

The role requires construction-focused AP experience, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to collaborate with project managers and procurement teams.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• 3–5 years accounts payable experience, preferably in construction.
• Proficiency in accounting software (Sage, Foundation, CMiC, Accumatica, Viewpoint or similar).
• Strong understanding of job costing and construction-related payables.

Responsibilities

• Accurately review, verify, and process vendor invoices, credit card transactions, and expense reports.
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, contract terms, and regulatory requirements.
• Set up new vendors and maintains records of W-9s.
• Assist in month-end and year-end closing procedures by reconciling accounts payable transactions.
• Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to resolve billing issues.
