Job summary

Fairfield University is seeking an experienced IT support specialist to provide technical assistance on Windows 10/11 and macOS for faculty, staff, and students. You will diagnose hardware, software, and network issues, perform maintenance, and support classroom technology.

Responsibilities include handling moves, adds, changes, inventory, procurement support, and occasional remote work with managerial approval; evening and weekend hours may apply. 11am–7pm shifts are required, with summer hours.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in technical field or equivalent experience; 3–5 years in a service-based industry providing technical support.
  • Experience supporting Windows 10/11 and macOS in an academic environment preferred.
  • Strong service orientation and clear communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 1 support for faculty, staff and students during class time and remote as approved.
  • Diagnose hardware, software and network issues; perform repairs, upgrades and maintenance.
  • Maintain inventory, assist in procurement, and ensure asset data accuracy.
  • Assist in data backup, recovery and restoration procedures when needed.
  • Support moves, adds, changes and special projects; on-site and occasional remote work.

Job Description:

Provide Technical support on Windows 10 & 11 and Mac OS forfaculty, staff and students experiencing computer hardware,software and network issues. Diagnose and resolve hardware issueswith computers, laptops, printers, and classroom/event and teammeeting rooms. Perform regular maintenance tasks for classroomtechnology including cleaning, Software updates and Firm Wareupdates. Tier 1 support for all classroom issues during class timeas calls come in. Perform hardware upgrades new computer installsand software installs and upgrades for faculty and staff, alwayskeeping asset data base current. Tier 2 support for Help Deskregarding issues they are unable to resolve. Maintain data backupand recovery to safeguard university information and minimize dataloss. Assist in restoring data from backups in the event of systemfailures or corruption. Maintain accurate inventory of computerequipment, software applications and peripherals ensuring accuratetracking. Assist in procurement processes by identifying the needfor new equipment and suggesting suitable options. Phone supportwhen needed, remote work per approval by manager. Point of contactfor technical issues & services for faculty and staff andstudents (as help desk needs.) Responsible for moves, add, changesas needed and special projects as assign. Remote work must beapproved by manager.

Unusual Work Conditions

Support of satellite offices asneeded, nights and weekends as needed. Hours are 11am-7pm. Summerhours apply.

Qualifications:
  • Education: BA/BS in technical field or equivalent e xperience:3-5 years in a service-based industry providing technical supportto customer using computers, audiovisual and multimedia technology.Strong service orientation is essential; strong organizational andcommunication skills are important to deal with varied andhigh-level user contact.
Knowledge and Skills Needed:
  • Strong Understanding of Windows and Mac hardware components,software applications and printers and networking devices.Proficiency in various Operating systems is crucial. Windows andmacOS.
  • Solid grasp of networking concepts, protocols, IP addressingand subnetting is necessary to troubleshoot connectivity.
  • Knowledge of systematic troubleshooting methodologies toidentify and resolve hardware and software issues.
