Job description

Classification Title:

Computer Operator II

This position is open to current UF employees only.

UF Information Technology (UFIT) is seeking an intermediate-level Computer Operator II to join the Infrastructure and Communication Technology - Single Operations Center, within UFIT.

Employment with UFIT offers the chance to work with dedicated professionals focused on understanding and addressing the technological needs of the University of Florida’s community.

As part of ICT, you will join the Single Operations Center team, which provides foundational support for UFIT. This 24x7x365 team supports the university’s success through service and operational excellence. The Computer Operator II will collaborate with teams across UFIT and peers to monitor UF’s systems and services, respond to customer inquiries, incidents, and alerts.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Monitoring system and operator status, escalating issues as needed
  2. Managing critical batch processes and responding to abnormal conditions
  3. Supporting the Florida LambdaRail Network Operating Center and UF’s Data Centers and Infrastructure
  4. Assisting with UF Computing Help Desk tasks and documentation
  5. Recommending procedural improvements and mentoring/trainings for less experienced staff

Expected Salary: $22.05/hour

Minimum Requirements

An associate’s degree; or a high school diploma or equivalent plus three years of relevant experience. College coursework or vocational training may substitute for experience at an equivalent rate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of modern computing and networking concepts
  • Experience with incident/request ticketing and system/network monitoring systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications
  • Ability to work independently
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
