Job summary

United Launch Alliance (ULA) in Denver seeks a Composite Strength Analyst to analyze composite and metallic structures, develop FEMs, and provide design recommendations. The role requires hands-on experience with NASTRAN, FEMAP, NX, ABAQUS, Matlab, and Python, plus strong communication and teamwork skills.

You will document results, support design reviews, and work with limited supervision in a fast-paced, ITAR-controlled environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field.
  • Minimum 2 years of related work experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are essential.
  • General understanding of materials and material properties.
  • Experience with Structural Analysis.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with component suppliers and development of spec requirements.
  • Understanding of bolted joint modeling and analysis.
  • Understanding of GD&T standards and principles.
  • Understanding of analysis best practices and underlying assumptions.
  • Understanding of basic hand calculations.
  • Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performing analysis of composite material structures, as well as metallic elements, to support recurring operations, nonconformance resolution, and development programs.
  • Create finite element analysis models (FEMs), perform hand calculations and have an understanding of analysis best practices to provide strength inputs and recommendations for new designs, design modifications, and installations.
  • Run and modify existing FEMs to support updated inputs, design changes, or nonconformance resolution.
  • Review and approve 3-D engineering layouts, 3-D models, designs / drawings and 2-D drawing changes.
  • Make engineering design recommendations with consideration of thermal, mechanical and pressure loading using appropriate material properties, configurations, safety factors, etc.
  • Analysis results will be documented in strength reports.
  • Support internal peer reviews, table top reviews and formal design reviews as needed.
  • Will also need to support fast paced design/analysis cycles and be able to evaluate hardware non-conformances to support production activities.
  • The engineer must be able to work with a minimal level of mentor oversight.
