Job summary

City of Evanston seeks a Dance Instructor_USAG Pre-Team and Team to provide developmentally appropriate instruction for children aged 7-15. The role includes teaching USAG Level 3 and 4 floor/beam routines and leading ballet, stretching, and leaps across sessions, with an emphasis on safety and progressive lesson planning.

You will prepare gymnasts for competition, maintain a safe environment, and communicate progress and concerns to the Program Supervisor/Coordinator.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience teaching ballet, lyrical, ballroom, Latin or modern dance to ages 4-12, including three (3) years or more coaching for competitive dancers.
• Previous experience coaching USAG Compulsory or pre-team preferred.
• Must possess or be willing to obtain USAG Competitive Coach Membership and maintain it as a condition of employment.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification required, maintained as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate pre-competitive program for preschool and elementary-aged children.
• Demonstrate understanding of USAG Level 3 and 4 routines, deductions, and performance specifications.
• Draft monthly lesson plans and ensure safe spotting and age-appropriate coaching.
• Provide constructive feedback and monitor progress; communicate concerns to supervisor.
• Prepare gymnasts for competition, ensuring routines performed safely and per Code of Points.
• Supervise participants before, during and after practices and competitions, ensuring safety and supervision of children.
