Job summary

Westfield Area YMCA is seeking an Assistant Director of Competitive Aquatics to assist in managing the competitive aquatics program. You will help certify staff, oversee budgets, personnel and risk management while aligning with YMCA core values.

The role includes leading swim clinics, managing the Devilfish program, overseeing team tryouts, registrations and payments, and ensuring safety and quality across all meets and practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ coaching experience with leadership responsibilities (head age group coach, head coach, etc.)
• Must be a member of USA Swimming (NJ) and possess, maintain and renew the American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches training.
• As a condition of employment, the Assistant Director of Competitive Aquatics must possess, maintain and renew YMCA Lifeguard and/or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers and Professional Rescuers (CPR & AED), Basic First Aid or equivalent and obtain and maintain Emergency Oxygen Administration within 30 days of hire
• Must have the knowledge required for the management of a competitive swim team program of 250+ swimmers of various ages.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the supervision, development and oversight of the Devilfish Program.
• Develop and implement new programs based on space availability with approval from Directors.
• Lead swim clinics, long course training and individual/small group lessons as needed.
• Oversee registrations for swim team programs and manage payments.
• Assist with staff supervision and development of lesson plans for coaching staff.
• Oversee Devilfish swim team tryouts and recruit new swimmers.
• Monitor practice and meet schedules and ensure attendance tracking.
• Maintain order and discipline during practice and meets.
• Be on deck for all assigned hours and events.
• Attend dual meets, YMCA championships and USA Invitational meets as required.
• Adhere to safety rules and standards and manage equipment and facility issues.
