Job summary

South Kendall Animal Hospital is seeking a skilled veterinary assistant/receptionist to be the primary contact for clients and their pets. The role blends administrative precision with compassionate client care in a busy clinical setting.

Responsibilities include greeting clients, updating records, handling phone inquiries, processing payments, and supporting vets during exams and procedures. Strong communication and empathy are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of veterinary front desk or receptionist/assistant experience.
• Experience with veterinary practice management software (Cornerstone, Avimark, ImproMed, eVetPractice, or ezyVet) preferred.
• Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, vaccination protocols, and basic diagnostics.
• Technical skills: disinfection, medication administration, and use of diagnostic equipment.
• Proficient in appointment scheduling, multi-line phone management, medical records management, and payment processing.
• Ability to move between front-desk and clinical duties during the shift.
• Strong customer service skills; manage high-volume client interactions with composure.

Responsibilities

• Greet and check in clients and patients; verify/update medical records and appointments.
• Answer multi-line phone inquiries about scheduling, refills, records, and hospital info.
• Process payments, post charges, explain invoices, and schedule follow-ups.
• Communicate medical information compassionately, including end-of-life discussions.
• Maintain EMR/PIMS accuracy and keep reception area clean and organized.
• Assist veterinarians and vet technicians during exams, treatments, and surgeries.
• Safely restrain animals and prepare examination rooms and surgical areas.
• Coordinate with staff to relay client communications and maintain patient flow.
