Job summary

Heartland Veterinary Partners is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment. You will monitor hospitalized pets, educate clients, assist with surgical procedures, and maintain lab work and inventory.

The role emphasizes compassion, teamwork, and clear client communication. Responsibilities include assisting with exams, preparing patients for surgery, collecting samples, performing in-house lab work, radiography, and medication

Qualifications

• Weekend availability required.
• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Able to lift patients and equipment up to 25 pounds; with assistance for heavier lifts.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.
• Basic math and ability to calculate medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office applications.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in veterinary medicine and surgery as needed.
• Assist in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, and provide client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain samples and perform in-hospital lab tests, prepare specimens for outside labs.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restraint during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments.
• Clean and restock exam rooms and labs, maintain equipment.
