Job summary

Heartland Veterinary Partners is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in patient care and treatment. The role involves monitoring hospitalized pets, assisting with surgeries, preparing medications, and educating clients on care and procedures.

The position requires weekend availability, basic math for dosages, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Prior veterinary experience is preferred, with OSHA PPE safety practices emphasized.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in veterinary medicine and surgery as needed.
• Assist with outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights; educate clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor during procedures.
• Obtain samples and perform in-hospital laboratory testing; prepare specimens for outside labs.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Handle and restrain animals during examinations as required.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Keep exam rooms and equipment clean and stocked; support public areas of the practice.
