Job summary

Heartland Veterinary Partners in Liberty Hill, TX is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in patient care, hospital monitoring, and in-house laboratory work.

The role includes preparing prescriptions, assisting with surgeries, taking histories and vital signs, and educating clients about procedures. Weekend availability and basic math and computer skills are valued, with a focus on teamwork and compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Patience and compassion when interacting with clients, patients and teammates.
• Ability to work with veterinarians and staff as part of a team.
• Clear communication with clients and teammates to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in medicine and surgery as needed.
• Take histories, vitals, and weights during outpatient exams and educate clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor during procedures.
• Collect samples and perform in-hospital lab tests; prepare for outside labs.
• Take and maintain radiographs following safety protocols.
• Handle and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Restock and clean exam rooms and equipment; support staff as needed.
• Maintain warmth, courtesy, and professionalism with clients and patients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and team members about plans and concerns.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
