Job summary

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. seeks a Veterinary Assistant to provide excellent medical care to patients and outstanding customer service to clients. The role supports doctors, maintains EMRs, and upholds a clean, organized hospital environment.

The incumbent collaborates with veterinarians and staff to ensure patient welfare, accurate record-keeping, and a positive client experience in a busy veterinary hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and able to maintain a professional attitude.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.
• Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs and record in EMR.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia as directed.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications as directed.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results to doctor and clients, and maintain client/patient records.
• Help prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist in anesthesia and recovery.
