Job summary

My Vet Animal Clinic in Eureka, MO is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with patient care, sample collection, and in-house lab work. You will assist with exams, monitor hospitalized pets, and help educate clients.

The role requires compassion, teamwork, and strong communication, with responsibilities ranging from radiographs and anesthesia prep to keeping rooms clean and stocked. Experience preferred; benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds; assist with heavier lifts.
• OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.
• Basic math for calculating medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office applications.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in patient care and surgery as needed.
• Assist with outpatient exams: histories, vital signs, weights, client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures.
• Obtain blood, stool and other samples; perform in-hospital lab tests.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines and treatments as directed.
• Clean and restock exam rooms and treatment areas; maintain equipment.
• Demonstrate warmth and professionalism with clients and patients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and staff about plans and concerns.
• Other duties as assigned.
