Job summary

Animal Medical Services is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment in a busy practice serving multiple counties. The role involves monitoring hospitalized pets, preparing prescriptions, in-house lab work, and assisting with surgeries as needed.

The ideal candidate will have weekend availability, basic math for medications, and good communication skills to educate clients and ensure safety.

Qualifications

• Weekend availability as required.
• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.
• Basic math and the ability to calculate medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with MS Office applications.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment.
• Monitor hospitalized pets and maintain inventory.
• Prepare prescriptions and in-house laboratory work.
• Educate clients regarding veterinary care and procedures.
• Assist with surgical procedures when needed.
• Obtain blood, stool, and other samples for testing.
• Take and develop radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restraint during exams.
