Job summary

Gentle Doctor Animal Hospital in Missouri seeks a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks, including cleaning, feeding, restraining, and assisting with surgeries. The role emphasizes compassionate patient care, client communication, and accurate medical documentation.

The team offers a culture of care with ongoing education to keep up with veterinary advances. Shift typically includes weekdays with some Saturday coverage, in a fast-paced, multi-doctor

Qualifications

• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years experience as a veterinary technician or assistant.
• Strong understanding of veterinary medical protocols, patient care and hospital operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients.
• Greet patients and owners, weigh patients and record vital signs upon arrival.
• Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medications as directed by licensed technicians.
• Calm and soothe anxious patients.
• Assist doctors and technicians with medications or patient restraint.
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs.
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, pumps, scales, monitors, etc.).
• Fill prescriptions and maintain documentation for controlled drugs.
• Feed patients as prescribed and monitor appetites.
• Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medical plans.
• Maintain cleanliness of the hospital and equipment.
• Bath and groom patients staying overnight; ensure proper release.
