Job summary

The Gathering Inn in Sacramento is seeking a compassionate Specialist to welcome guests, perform intake with empathy, and ensure a trauma-informed, dignified environment that supports safety and belonging.

You will oversee nightly bed assignments, check-ins, and transitions; respond to crises with calm de-escalation; document interactions; and coordinate with staff, volunteers, and partners to meet each guest’s needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience or understanding of homelessness, mental health, or substance use challenges valued.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive when needed.
• Able to pass Live Scan background check.
• Availability for weekends, evenings and overnight shifts.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and intake guests with empathy and respect, trauma-informed.
• Oversee bed assignments, check-ins, and transitions.
• Respond to crises with compassion and de-escalation, coordinating with emergency services when needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment reflecting dignity and respect.
• Document guest interactions and facility needs clearly for the team.
