Job summary

Ideal candidates will have at least one year of relevant experience, familiarity with MOR, and ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with state-specific training for the position.
• Must obtain Continuing Education credits as required by state (if applicable).
• Minimum of one year experience.
• Experience in a long-care/geriatric nursing setting preferred.
• Emergency care and first-aid experience preferred.
• Good working knowledge of Medication Observation Record (MOR).
• Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management, residents, families, and outside contacts.
• Clerical and typing skills including typing, data entry, filing, etc. required.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Able to make independent decisions.
• Passion to work with and around senior citizens.

Responsibilities

• Checks the six rights of medication administration at three different times.
• Assists residents with medications according to their MOR.
• Documents clearly and accurately on the MOR after medication events.
• Maintains an organized med cart/cabinet and restocks as needed.
• Provides treatments as part of each resident’s service plan.
• Promotes safe, confidential treatment and respects rights to refuse.
• Responds promptly to resident calls and reports adverse reactions.
• Reports medication errors honestly and immediately.
• Adheres to infection control guidelines and OSHA regulations.
• Seeks supervisor guidance when questions arise about medications or treatments.
• Notifies supervisor of concerns raised by residents’ families.
