Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Tech to support nursing staff by performing basic patient care activities under the supervision of an RN. The role includes monitoring vital signs, glucose checks, and documenting intake and output, plus assisting with daily living activities and keeping rooms clean.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, CNA/CMA/EMT or nursing student with clinical experience, and BLS.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• CNA / CMA / EMT or nursing student with one semester of clinical completed is required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities under an RN, including monitoring vital signs and glucose, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and personal care.
• Reports abnormal findings to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility and multi-tasking under stressful conditions.
• Prioritizes unit workload with the charge RN and/or manager.
• Acts as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers calls and uses proper etiquette, relaying information appropriately.
• Manages overall unit workflow with the charge RN/assistant manager as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission, discharge and census lists as needed.
