Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Patient Care Tech to support nursing staff and deliver patient-centered care. Under RN or physician supervision, you will collect specimens, obtain EKGs, assist with hygiene and nutrition, and help with mobility and comfort as outlined in the plan of care.

Responsibilities also include monitoring patient safety, responding to call lights, performing point-of-care testing, and participating in learning and performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited CNA program and listed on the state of Illinois CNA Registry or nursing student who has completed one clinical rotation. Must provide written verification.
• BLS through American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of clinical/patient care related functions under the direction of the RN or physician.
• Collects, labels and transports specimens as assigned.
• Obtains 12 lead EKGs.
• Discontinues Saline Locks and Indwelling Urinary Catheters.
• Discontinues Telemetry Monitoring packs.
• Performs Bladder Scan.
• Performs Point of Care Testing as appropriate.
• Assists patients with personal hygiene and nutritional needs as identified in the plan of care.
• Performs hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the RN.
• Obtains and documents patient care data as directed by the RN.
• Assists with patient ambulation and positioning.
• Responds to patient call lights and requests for assistance.
• Maintains a safe clinical environment for patient, family and staff.
• Assists with post mortem care.
• Participates in learning and performance improvement activities.
