Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Tech to support the clinical team in providing safe, compassionate patient care. You will perform specimen handling, EKGs, bladder scans, and assist with hygiene, mobility, and daily activities under the supervision of an RN or physician.

The role emphasizes patient safety, adherence to policies, and ongoing learning. A CNA background and CPR/BLS are required, with commitment to quality care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• CNA program completion and Illinois CNA Registry listing, or nursing student with one clinical rotation.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.

Responsibilities

• Collects, labels and transports specimens as assigned.
• Obtains 12 lead EKGs.
• Discontinues Saline Locks and Indwelling Urinary Catheters.
• Discontinues Telemetry Monitoring packs.
• Performs Bladder Scan.
• Performs Point of Care Testing as appropriate.
• Assists patients with personal hygiene and nutritional needs.
• Performs hourly patient rounding with RN.
• Obtains and documents patient care data as directed by RN.
• Assists with ambulation and positioning.
• Supports the care team to meet patient needs.
• Responds promptly to patient call lights.
• Maintains a safe clinical environment for patients, family and staff.
• Assists with post mortem care.
• Identifies learning needs and completes required training.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

CNA program certification (Illinois CNA Registry)

Nursing student with clinical rotation completed

BLS certification (American Heart Association)
