Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, WV is seeking a CNA to assist in direct patient care and activities of daily living under RN supervision. You will safely transport patients, perform routine tests, phlebotomy where allowed, monitor vital signs and support respiratory care as needed.

The role involves assisting with examinations, basic rehab activities, and ensuring a clean, safe environment. Minimum qualifications include a HS diploma and BLS/First Aid within 30 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.
• Prior patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the RN.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living in a timely manner, including making beds.
• Safely transports patients per Safe Patient Handling Policy to tests and discharge.
• Transports specimens and items throughout the facility.
• Performs routine tests such as glucose monitoring and urine/stool testing per policy.
• Performs routine phlebotomy services in appropriate departments.
• Records vital signs and intake/output according to policy.
• Provides respiratory support and encourages Incentive Spirometry when indicated.
• Notifies RN of any patient concerns or condition changes.
• Prepares patients for examinations and assists with procedures.
• Assists with basic rehab/Physical Therapy activities and ambulation.
• Communicates nutrition concerns to RN and supports diet changes.
• Maintains a clean, safe environment to prevent infections.
• Maintains and reports equipment status and completes repairs as needed.
• Supports routine unit operations and timely communication.
• Answers telephone and patient call lights courteously and relays messages promptly.
• Completes errands as requested.
• Unlicensed assistive personnel may access medications only under supervision.
• Removes out-of-date items.
