Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a dedicated team member to support direct patient care under RN supervision. You will assist with activities of daily living, vital signs, basic tests, and patient comfort while maintaining a safe, clean environment.

The role emphasizes collaboration with nurses, physicians, and families to promote a family-centered care experience. A high school diploma and BLS/First Aid certification within 30 days are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Assists in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the RN.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and bed making as needed.
• Safely transports patients per Safe Patient Handling Policy and escorts them for discharge.
• Transports specimens and items throughout the facility.
• Performs routine phlebotomy services (excluding line draws) as directed.
• Records vital signs and intake/output according to policy.
• Provides respiratory support and sets up oxygen equipment.
• Encourages use of Incentive Spirometer per Respiratory Care procedure.
• Notes patient concerns and changes in condition to the RN immediately.
• Prepares patients for examinations and procedures.
• Assists physicians and RNs with exams and procedures.
• Assists with basic rehab/physical therapy activities (ROM and ambulation).
• Maintains a clean, safe environment to prevent infections and protect patients and staff.
• Reports equipment issues and arranges repairs per procedure.
• Answers phones and relays messages promptly to appropriate staff.
• Completes errands as requested.
• Removes out-of-date items from units.
